Plan mapping, sample imports and launch checks when moving products, customers and orders to a different store platform.

Changing store platforms is as much a data project as a design project. Seeing products on the new site does not prove prices, variants or order history migrated correctly. Define what will and will not move.

Separate data groups

Products, variants, categories, customers and orders have different structures. Check which fields the destination supports. Document where information belongs when there is no direct equivalent.

Import a representative sample early

Include accented text, long descriptions, multiple images and variant products. Compare the import report with the actual customer and admin screens, not just the count of successful rows.

Manage changes during the transition

New orders may arrive after the export begins. Decide which system remains active and how final differences are transferred. Record matching should prevent duplicate orders.

Plan URLs and rollback

Map important product and category addresses to their new destinations. Retain a secure backup and assign rollback responsibilities. For acceptance, open sample stock, customer and order records with the operations team rather than relying solely on a technical report.
